There is no single approach to planning a project, but for a given project, there is a best one. So what is it? And how can you know what it is?
For a fundamental discipline in project management, there are surprisingly few documented approaches to for the process of creating a plan there are many books and scheduling. But in projects planning comes first.
This workshop looks at how to establish a step-by-step approach to planning a project. We start by looking at the plans required by a typical product development project, such as an enhancement project in IT, or a building project in construction. Then the impact of constraints and project specific critical success factors are considered and how they alter the sequence of steps. Seven situations are analysed: time-critical, resource, constrained, budget-constrained, risk-critical, stakeholder-led, innovation, and operational projects.
We then look to see how modern influences, such as Agile product development approaches, and agile project management ideas affect the development, structure, and content of project plans.
